A to Z Challenge - April 2015

By Monday, March 23, 2015

About a month ago I stumbled on a blogging challenge where each day in April (except Sundays) you post about a topic starting with a different letter of the alphabet.

I've tried blog challenges before and failed miserably. This last Christmas I joined a "12 days of Christmas" challenge and dropped out before it started: outfits, accessories and makeup each had a day. I came to the conclusion that the only accessory you really need is a box of Christmas cookies and maybe a Santa hat, and then realized that this challenge was not for me.

So at first I was a little leery, I thought it sounded like a whole lot of work, and besides, I was going to be traveling a lot of April, there was no way I'd have time to write 26 posts, let alone with a topic requirement like that (X? what begins with X?)

But soon I found myself planning out posts while sitting in mandatory four hour presentation rehearsals in German (I don't speak German). I had a lot of posts in my archives that with a little renaming easily slid into place.

Of course, I'm going to try to stick to a travel and expat theme.

I have an idea for X, although it's going to be tricky to turn it into a whole blog post. Z is giving me the most trouble right now.

So keep a look out next week for a flurry of posts, and help keep me on on task and not fall behind! If you'd like to participate too, there's still time to sign up at a-to-zchallenge.com.

  1. This is our first year doing the A to Z challenge. We had a similar experience to you; we debated not doing it because of the amount of work and travel we have going on in April, but by the end of that day we already had a list of topics we were excited to write about. So now we are both feet in.
Looking forward to frequenting your blog this April.

  2. My wife and I did the A-Z challenge last year and it was a great time. Yes it was a lot of work but I got to see a ton of new blogs that I never would have found otherwise. I hope you enjoy the challenge. I'll definitely be following your journey through the alphabet as travel blogs are some of my favourites, especially expat ones since I am one myself.

  3. Welcome to the A to Z Challenge! The last few letters of the alphabet are always a bit tricky, but if you approach them a bit sideways (or start paging through a dictionary for inspiring words), that usually helps. :)

I'm writing about my new hometown of San Diego this year, so it should be fun to read to read your travel posts from around the world.

  4. Good luck. This will be my fourth AtoZ in the last five years, as I took the year off that we went around the world (But we were in countries like China, Russia, UAE and Oman for April, so I had no idea if I would even have internet.) I am also doing expat / travel this year. I look forward to following your adventures.

  5. Welcome to the Challenge! This is my second time and it's a lot of fun. It's a great opportunity to think outside the box. And how wonderful that you live abroad - that would be a dream come true. I'm looking forward to reading your posts. I'm blogging about my travels in Italy last year.

  6. Welcome to the challenge! Travel themes are usually fun :) Keep it short, it will go easier than you'd think ;) Out of all letters, T was giving me trouble this year for some reason... But it's all good now :)

  8. Good for you for signing up for the challenge and having your posts somewhat mapped out! That's half the battle. Q, X, Z can be such challenging letters! Your theme sounds like a great one! Have fun with it!

  9. Lucky you, traveling about. Very nice shots on the main page! Lots to see on your blog. I'm featuring French Faves on mine. Hope you can stop by.

  10. Hi, fellow traveler! I didn't think I was going to finish the challenge last year, but somehow I did it, despite the fact that we had guests in town for a week! I'm struggling over several letters at the moment. I'll come up with something! Good luck!
