Hamburg's Cherry Blossom Festival Fireworks

By Monday, May 20, 2013 , ,

Last Friday was the Hamburg Cherry Blossom festival, and the next day was Japan Culture day.

In the US, the Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC are a famous springtime attraction, but most people don't know that Japan also gave cherry trees to Melbourne and Hamburg. The cherry trees were no longer blooming, but I believe the festival is held on that day to coincide with a prominent festival in Japan.

As it often is in Hamburg, it rained a lot both days but cleared up in time for the fireworks. Unfortunately it was raining too much the next day so we didn't get to see any of the demonstrations in the park.

The Fireworks were lovely and we got to watch them from a great spot across the lake, where the the boats made silhouettes against the light reflected off of the water.

    1. I'm so glad you like them! I'm from the US originally and we only really have fireworks once a year on the 4th of July, but people here love them and use almost any holiday as an excuse to set them off!

    1. Thanks for visiting! To be completely honest, Hamburg is not one of the more exciting cities in Germany, but it does have a lovely lake in the middle!
